“If you want to really hurt your parents, and you don't have the nerve to be gay, the least you can do is go into the arts. I'm not kidding. The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven's sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possibly can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something.”
― Kurt Vonnegut, A Man Without a Country.

I am Roland! A woodcrafter, a 3d printer, a designer, a creator through-and-through! Starting the Undermakers with Wyatt and Mason has been one of the greatest pleasures of my life. Currently I work as a barista at a little gaming coffee shop in Thornton and I do odd craftsman jobs for friends and family. Previously, I’ve been a woodcrafter lead at F.E.Warren Air Force Base arts & crafts center and a manager at Arrow Antennas LLC.

I love to create things. It doesn’t matter what. What I can build with my hands is far more important to me than anything else. I started woodworking for a job at an arts & crafts center where I was able to explore a breadth of technical skills and fun techniques. I’ve always been handy and skilled with some tools but it’s only in recent years that I’ve been able to make pieces like the chess boards. I am happiest when creating and always have some kind of project I’m working on.

Aside from woodworking I have been 3d printing and painting miniatures for over 10 years. Digital design has been another outlet of creation that I have been able to explore and it’s served me well in my other hobbies.

If you don’t find me in the garage making something I’m likely gaming, either on PC or over the tabletop. Board gaming has been a lifelong passion to the extent of even creating one. With the goal of one day being published, game design has been a fun side project.

If you’ve bought one of my chessboards, thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting me and the Undermakers! We strive to make beautiful things that people can enjoy for years to come!

Always keep creating! Never stop! You will have added something to the world!
